Jaune Buisson Hebert  is celebrating her eighteenth year as the artistic director of  Metropolitan Dance Theatre of New Orleans. Most recently,  she staged RAGTIME and PIRATES OF PENZANCE for Tulane Summer Lyric.  She  won the 2014 Big Easy Award for “Best Actress in a Musical” for her work in A CHORUS LINE with Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University.  She has staged critically acclaimed, sold-out productions of HAIRSPRAY, THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, HELLO DOLLY!, and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, and  PETER, PAN, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, CHICAGO, A CHORUS LINE, CURTAINS, and WHITE CHRISTMAS. 

She is a recipient of three Big Easy Entertainment Awards, New Orleans’ premiere event honoring the musical and theatrical talent of a city renowned for its outstanding performing arts. Buisson has also been recognized for her work with The Jefferson Performing Arts Society, Le Petit Theatre, Six Flags New Orleans, Southern Repertory Theatre and Rivertown Repertory Theatre with two Ambi Awards and a Marquee Award for Best Choreography. Ms. Buisson has had the hon­or to serve as dance clinician teaching alongside famed choreographer Dee Dee Wood and Tony Award winner Chita Rivera.    

     

Coming from a family of dancers, Jauné grew up dancing in her mother’s dance studio and began her teaching there.  She went on to achieve top awards in competition being named the American Dance Team School solo winner and the Overture to the Cultural Season dance scholarship.  Jauné has studied dance in New York at Broadway Dance Center, The Ailey School and Steps on Broadway.  She served as the resident choreographer  for Le Petit’s Corner Theatre staging SNOOPY, BYE BYE BIRDIE, FREE TO BE...YOU AND ME, HONK, CINDERELLA, SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK! and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. For MDTNO, she has directed  three original dance concerts for  the summer dance intensive, PLAY ME A MEMORY, REVOLUTION and UNWRITTEN.

Additionally, she has taught throughout the U.S. as a dance instructor and adjunctor for Dance Teachers United, Dance Masters of America and the National Dance Association.  Her work has been seen at  Mount Carmel Academy, Jesuit High School, Archbishop Rummel High School, Holy Cross, Southeastern Louisiana University and the Academy of Sacred Heart.

 

An accomplished dancer, Ms. Buisson’s onstage performances have garnered several  Big Easy, Storer Boone, Marquee nominations for Leading Actress in a Musical.  Credits include Lois / Bianca (Kiss Me, Kate), Chicago (Roxie), A Chorus Line (Cas­sie), Curtains (Nikki), Gypsy (Tessie Tura), Cinderella (Cinderella), Newsies, the Superbowl XXXI Halftime Show, and performances with UNO and a national commercial for Louisiana Tourism featuring Chris Paul.  She has a B.A. in Drama and Communications from the University of New Orleans and teaches dance at Metairie Park Country Day School.  She is looking forward to choreographing SHE LOVES ME this summer at Tulane.
